Is travel insurance compulsory for international travel?

When planning a trip abroad, an important question to ask is whether travel insurance is necessary or not. Travel insurance is generally not compulsory for international travel, but there are a number of reasons why it can be very useful to take out an assistance contract. The most important reason to purchase travel insurance for international trips is for medical coverage. If you get injured or sick while abroad, travel insurance will help cover the cost of medical treatment and even the cost of repatriation. In addition, many travel insurance policies also cover trip cancellation and interruption, loss of luggage and technical vehicle problems in Europe.
